EnerSys employees shine in Mission Birdsboro

Summer might mean “vacation” for some, but every July, the Birdsboro, Pennsylvania community gets to work. For 10 years, Mission Trip Birdsboro and Beyond has been rallying volunteers from the community to help homeowners in need. What started as a modest initiative by St. Paul's UCC in Birdsboro in 2014 has grown into a multidenominational not-for-profit organization. Each year, volunteers tackle a wide range of projects, including painting, roof repairs, yard maintenance, and the construction of handicap access ramps, among others, for community members in need, including veterans, widows, and anyone else who may need a helping hand. In its first year, the mission tackled four homes, but this year, it expanded its reach to an impressive 48 homes in the Birdsboro area.

One standout volunteer, Melanie Campbell, who is also a Customer Service Representative at EnerSys, has been part of the mission since its inception. This year, she joined 150 other volunteers in the Mission Trip Birdsboro & Beyond project, including other EnerSys employees: Natalie Aaron, EHS Assistant; Nate Andrews, North America Motive Power Remarketing Manager; and Rus Tenny, Field Service Specialist. Natalie, like Melanie, has been involved with the project for many years, serving as Vice President for four years and Board President for two.

“I’m a strong supporter of international missions, but this one focuses on helping families right here in Berks County,” said Melanie. “Sometimes the people who need your help the most are your very own neighbors.”

EnerSys, a sponsor of this project, along with other local companies, has played a significant role in making these repairs possible. “Community sponsors, like EnerSys, are key to making this happen,” says Natalie. “It’s great to work for a company that cares about the communities where we live and work.”

The Mission Trip Birdsboro & Beyond project not only provides critical assistance to families in need but also serves as a shining example of how resilient and giving a community can be. For many homeowners in need, this mission is a lifeline, a reminder that they are not forgotten, and that their community cares deeply about their well-being. The commitment of volunteers like Melanie, Natalie, Nate and Rus, exemplifies the very best of Birdsboro -- and the very best of EnerSys -- embodying our core values of teamwork and engagement through service to others.
