Edge Computing
Edge computing functions may be located at a central site like a data center, on a customer’s premises, in the RAN at a macro site, or eventually in the radio itself. The edge compute function may be powered by a 48VDC plant, an inverter, or by a UPS backed up by batteries and a generator.
Edge computing moves cloud computing capabilities closer to the edge of the network, in close proximity to mobile customers and enterprises. Edge computing functions may be located at a central site like a data center, on a customer’s premises, or in the RAN at a macro site. EnerSys® batteries and power systems are used to power edge computing in each type of location.
Data center applications are usually powered by UPS systems which, in turn, are backed up by EnerSys® batteries. We have deployed by 2V and 12V batteries, depending on the customer and size of the office. Our battery solutions range from traditional Flooded Lead Acid (FLA) and Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) to innovative Thin Plate Pure Lead (TPPL) and Lithium-ion (Li-ion) technologies. With a wide variety of sizes and shapes, we have the right battery for each application, helping our customers keep the site operational.
At a macro site, edge computing equipment may be either AC or DC powered. The edge compute function may be powered by an inverter connected to the -48Vdc plant such as the Cordex® CXPS-E3 or by a UPS backed up by batteries and a generator. EnerSys® PowerSafe® SBS and NorthStar® batteries are both used to back up these locations.
