Without a continual power supply, busy traffic intersections go dark, chaos ensues and lives are endangered. Battery backup systems keep traffic signals operating, helping to keep traffic flowing, even in extreme weather conditions.
Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) use cameras and roadway message signs to alert drivers to accidents, construction conditions and weather. ITS electronics are often placed far from the city center, away from a source of electricity. Remote Line Power (RLP) provides a dependable source of power that can be much more economical than direct connections to the electrical power grid.
The Alpha® FXM line of hardened outdoor-rated Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems are the leading solution for powering intersection signals. We offer a complete system with FXM products are paired with AlphaCell® batteries and housed in our controller cabinets or NEMA 3R outdoor enclosures. UPS and battery backup solutions for intersection signals ensure traffic flows and accidents and injury are minimized.
ITS networks can utilize our RLP solutions to deliver power to remote cameras and roadway signs. The RLP systems use copper cables to deliver DC power up to 30km from a central power source—providing a much lower TCO than direct connections to the electrical grid. Installing the copper cables alongside the fiber transport cables minimizes the operations and labor costs.
